Discover the Ottawa EXPERIENCE!

Ottawa Attracts OUTDOOR Lovers

Surrounded by Greenspace and Water

  • Outdoor lovers flock to Ottawa’s Greenbelt, a collection of diverse protected lands and waterways that surround the city. This includes over 150 kilometres (93 miles) of nature trails, more than 1,000 parks, four beaches, and 430+ cross country ski trails.
  • Ottawa offers sweeping views of Rideau Falls (twin waterfalls), the Ottawa River and Gatineau Hills. The historic Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, winds through the city centre. There are walkways, cycling paths and parkland on both sides, as well as boats and canoes that navigate through the canal. In winter, the Rideau Canal turns into the world’s largest skating rink.

Paths, Parks and Trails

  • Ottawa is a cyclist’s dream. In addition to 800 kilometres (497 miles) of recreational cycling paths, urban bike lanes make cycling an attractive commuting option for much of the year.
  • Ottawa is very dog-friendly, with dozens of options for on-leash and off-leash dog parks throughout the city.
  • Discover Confederation Boulevard, Ottawa’s ceremonial route that connects many sites and symbols of national significance: institutions like Parliament Hill, Rideau Hall and the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as museums, heritage sites, embassies, monuments, and parks.
  • Just a 15-minute drive from Ottawa’s downtown core is one of the largest networks of winter trails in North America! Gatineau Park features over 200 kilometres (124 miles) of cross-country skiing trails in the winter and hiking/biking trails in the summer!

Ottawa Has So Much WATER!

Water Sports and Adventure

  • There are three rivers that converge in Ottawa, making it the ideal place for a variety of watersports, including paddle boarding, canoeing, sailing, and kayaking. You can BYOB (bring your own boat), purchase a rental and/or sign up for lessons.
  • There are also many options for whitewater adventures (rafting, kayaking and more).
