Ottawa has four primary hospitals:
- Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) ranked among the world’s best pediatric hospitals.
- The Ottawa Hospital, a system of public teaching hospitals with three campuses.
- Montfort Hospital, a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Ottawa.
- Queensway-Carleton Hospital, delivering primary and secondary short-term health care.
In addition, there are other specialized hospitals and clinics in the community, such as:
- University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Canada’s largest and foremost heart health centre.
- The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Program, a world leader in cancer care and research.

Ottawa is home to the University of Ottawa (uOttawa), the largest fully bilingual (French-English) university in the world. The university ranks 141^st globally, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2020, and the 7^th best university in Canada. Carleton University is a dynamic research and teaching institution dedicated to achieving the highest standards of scholarship. The main campus is famous for its interconnecting underground tunnels, enabling students to navigate from one class to the next regardless of the season or weather. Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology is the largest polytechnic in Eastern Ontario. The college is ranked No. 1 nationally for completed applied research projects and has record-setting cooperative education opportunities—which grew by 40% in 2019-20. In early 2020, Algonquin College launched AC Online, its first digital-only campus. It now has the highest number of online enrollments of all colleges and CEGEPS in Canada.
